One of my favorite tracks off one of my favorite albums of the year, “A.D.H.D.” off Kendrick Lamar’s Section.80, now has an official video to go along with it. Directed by Va$htie, the “A.D.H.D.” video features Kendrick and friends/fellow “80s babies” going through the motions, essentially, and in Va$htie’s words, the general mood of emptiness in the visuals is meant to embody “that basic experience of apathetic youth.”
While this isn’t anywhere close to my favorite video of the year, I like it the more I watch it, and I can definitely see what Kendrick and Va$htie were going for. Still, after how strong a video “Hiiipower” was, I was expecting a little more for “A.D.H.D.,” one of my favorite tracks of the year and one of the darker, more emotional songs on Section.80.
The bottom line is I can’t get enough of Kendrick Lamar these days, and I really believe he has the potential to be one of the greatest artists of our time. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. This past weekend, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Game, three of the most popular west coast hip-hop artists of the last 15 years, effectively passed the torch to Kendrick and all but dubbed him the future king of the west. You can read about that here, and you already know I’ll be up on anything K.Dot-related in the future. The popular rumor is that he and J. Cole will be working on a joint project together at some point after Cole’s album drops in September. If that ends up being true……
