One of the fastest-rising talents in the rap game, DMV native Logic dropped the official video for “The Spotlight,” a track off his upcoming project, a couple days ago.
First things first, nice Bred 6s. A good choice of shoes always makes a video better (i.e. Gangsta Gibbs’ 4s/6s in “National Anthem”).
More importantly, though, Logic is really providing a nice change of pace from so many up-and-comers trying to make it in hip-hop right now. He’s an intelligent dude (check out his recent interview with XXL) and really has a grip on the culture that is hip-hop. He’s got the ideal combo of an old school flavor with a fresh, new style, and he’s doing everything he can to exercise creativity and bring something new to the genre. So far, he’s done a great job. Young Sinatra, which he dropped last year, was a phenomenal effort, and only more big things can be expected from his upcoming album this spring.
This video, directed by GRVTY, is well-shot and just fun… which is exactly the goal of this song. “The Spotlight” highlights Logic’s lyrical ability, but it’s got such a light, feel-good beat that it makes for an awesome party track too.
