Ab-Soul + Danny Brown + Jhene Aiko + APLUSFilmz = A recipe for disaster. And by disaster I mean immeasurable success, of course. All four (I’m talking two rappers, a singer, and a production company) are blowing up in their own right, and naturally the product ended up being a dope visual accompaniment to an incredible track.
Ab-Soul and Danny, both whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in the past month (see HERE and HERE), are simply two of the best doing it right now, and “Terrorist Threats” is a prime example of their respective skill sets and creativity. Check the lyrics as provided by Rap Genius below for some analysis and explanations.
The video, directed by Fredo Tovar and Scott Fleishman of APLUSFilmz, was inspired by the opening lines, “Babylon, Babylon, At my WINDOW all I see is Babylon, On the news all I see is Babylon, And all niggas do is just babble on…”, at least according to their website. After reading that, everything fell into place for me. The use of the “window” as a symbol representing the lens through which Soulo and Danny view the world throughout the video is subtle but powerful, and after watching it four times in a row, I can honestly say there’s something new I picked up each time.
