I honestly didn’t think I’d listen to anything but Dom Kennedy’s Yellow Album today… until I heard this track.
I’m sure a ton of people are aware of the incredible wave of young talent rising in the Chicago hip-hop scene, but if you aren’t yet, it’s time to get familiar.
“Such A Thing” features Legit of 2008ighties and SaveMoney’s Chance The Rapper (who happens to be one of my favorite rappers alive right now) with production from THEM People. It’s the third installment of Legit’s weekly Saturday release series, and there’s really not much I can say about it other than that it was legit (pun intended) on repeat for an hour earlier this evening.
I don’t think Chance will ever run out of subject material. This track highlights his usual creativity and poetic ability, opening with some well-harmonized biblical references:
“Roses are red, Moses rose from the dead, to show his chosen souls across an ocean of red…”
Legit takes over halfway through and continues with what fellow Chi-Town spitter Alex Wiley has coined as “rapsangin’,” showing off a certain musical ability – not just “hot bars.”
“Such A Thing” is a really dope, soulful song with a unique sound, and I can’t say I’m surprised Chance and Legit were able to pull off such a smooth track together.
Stay tuned for much more coming out of the Windy City.
